The Powel Crosley Estate is a fantastic 1920s-era estate, built by the famed entrepreneur Powel Crosley Jr. It is conveniently located between Bradenton and Sarasota, and features the graceful styling and architecture of a bygone era. Yet, it has all of the modern amenities to guarantee an enjoyable event. My love for history and architecture makes this a wonderful place to photograph.
The bride shares my sentiments. “When we found the Powel Crosley, we knew it was place right away,” she says. “The Powel Crosley had it all. A gorgeous home with tons of history and a beautiful view of the Sarasota Bay without the sand! It was absolutely perfect!”
The Proposal – The Bride’s Perspective
He brought me on an impromptu surprise cruise to Jamaica! It was perfect. When we got on the ship he had the room all set up, and when we got there the ring was waiting on the bed. It was low key but so sweet and romantic. I was so shocked and thrilled! We spent the whole week celebrating on the boat and flashing my new bling.
They chose an ‘Old Florida’ vintage theme, and were able to add their own personal touches using color and natural elements. “[My husband] is severely allergic to flowers,” the bride shared, “but we didn’t want to have plain jane table decorations, so we decided our pop of color would come from fresh fruits!”
“Then it just kind of expanded from there. We found the cutest ‘Save the Dates’ that used an old Railroad advertisement and that kind of sealed the deal that we would carry out the ‘Old Florida’ feel throughout the whole day. We used lots of water color to create a vintage-y vibe. Everything was pretty, delicate and whimsical.” Their use of water-colored gold, peach, and green, added to the ‘Old Florida’ charm, making everything look pretty and romantic.
The couple personalized the wedding in every aspect. “I think Parker’s personality shined brightest in the food, [by his non-negotiable inclusion of] Chicken and Waffle Sliders and the DJ placement,” the bride reminisced. “He was so excited to put [the DJ] up on the balcony looking over the dance floor.”
“I think my personality came out most with the head table, the send off, and a lot of the music choices. I put a lot, maybe too much thought, into what songs would play at what time. I hand made all of the decorations used for the send off, that was my biggest DIY project for the day (fun fact, you can print on fabric from your printer!). My one splurge, that I recognize was a bit over the top, was the head table. I’m still in love with it to this day though, so I think it was worth it! Everything about it was exactly as I imagined it, from the hanging candles to the fun coupe champagne glasses, it was so much fun and really made the reception space!”
A Perfectly Balanced Ceremony To Reflect Their Love
It was really important to us that the ceremony reflected us as a couple, and not just us reading something to each other that really had no meaning. We’re very serious about our love and commitment to each other, but wanted it to be light hearted at the same time. I think we had the perfect blend.
Finding the Perfect Photographer – A Couple’s Perspective
We wanted someone who we knew we would get along with. I mean, they were going to be spending a really important day with us, we wanted to know it would be fun! Also, it was important that this person could take beautiful pictures.
A Unique and Fun Wedding
I think our wedding was the most fun wedding anyone will ever go to. Seriously, if you missed it, I’m sorry. Everyone knew that if Parker and Sydney we’re putting on an event, it wasn’t going to be typical. It was the perfect blend of family and friends, it wasn’t too fancy or too casual, it was just a party that celebrated our love!
Making the Moment Last a Lifetime
[When we met Micah and Marilyn] of Castorina Photography, I fell in love with their photos…I wanted to have pictures like that, and I figured the best way to get pictures like that was to hire the person who took those pictures. As an added bonus, they were the nicest people in the world! And [they] had a lot of enthusiasm about taking pictures at our venue, which was very comforting!
My advice is to book early so that you don’t have to worry about them not being available, because that would be a terrible mistake.
