After initially meeting on eHarmony, Michelle and Kirk spent several months getting to know each other over email. They finally met in person in Winter Park for their first date. “Over the next several months,” the bride reminisces, “we had a lot of great dates – drinking wine, being kids at Disney, traveling, meeting families and friends – and then the rest was history! I fell in love with Kirk the first time he made me a gourmet grilled cheese sandwich.” For Kirk, the feeling was mutual. “I just realized I was in love one day when I found myself day dreaming about what we would be like when we were old together,” Kirk tenderly shares.
The couple chose to have their engagement session in Celebration, FL, the town where they live and spent most of their time getting to know each other.
We were at Disney’s Aulani Resort & Spa for a “test stay” before the resort was open to the public. On the last night of our stay, we were sitting on the rocks at the end of the lagoon looking out at the sunset over the ocean. Kirk got down on one knee on the rocks and proposed. I was so surprised, I was not sure that I heard [him correctly], but when I turned my head and saw him on one knee, I knew what was happening and gladly said “Yes!!!”
We are [just] a few months away from the big day, [so] most of the important things are done. We are just working on those extra touches that will make our guests feel truly welcome and [that will] put our personal stamp on the wedding weekend. The ceremony will be at St. Armands Key Lutheran Church, [in Sarasota, Florida], and the reception will be at the Resort at Longboat Key Club.
About the Engagement Session Photo Shoot
[We wanted our engagement session to be] casual and fun – highlighting the town that we live in and love, along with us. We loved doing the shots with all of the nature elements, and loved how Marilyn climbed into the swamp to get the perfect shot of us on a boardwalk! We had fun, enjoyed being close together, and enjoyed going around town to capture photos in fun spots with good artistic backdrops.
How They Chose A Photographer
[We were looking for] someone a bit different, who would not take the traditional portrait shots, but truly capture the feeling and magic of the day in an artistic manner. We wanted someone who would collaborate with us and listen to what we want, but also someone who we felt comfortable trusting their artistic vision. We loved [their] work…and Kirk loved the idea of Micah’s drone capturing video from above us! [Also, their] personalities seemed to mesh well with ours.
